Take your shoes off…. Ahhhhhh… Nice to connect with you again.
Received my Earthing Mat from Earthing.com yesterday. I plugged it in right away and put it on the floor beneath my feet so I could ground myself. The first thing I noticed after grounding for two+ hours was that my feet became pink rather than the deathly white they usually are. I had less pain, better sleep and we shall see how this progresses.
The Earthing Kit came with all kinds of goodies, a book, CD of the movie, a magazine, instructions, a plug-in to check and make sure that the electric outlet works, and the mat and its accoutrements (a long red charger that hooks up to the mat on one side and plugs into the plug-in for the wall on the other).
Now here is some info from the book and online that I gathered to share with you. Since I have had breast cancer, blood clots on my lungs, congestive heart failure, swollen legs, ankles and breast, severe aorta stenosis, shortness of breath, blood clots on my lungs and joint pain from osteoarthritis in my knees, I figured other people may have one or two of those to deal with so here is what I found out.
What is Earthing/Grounding you ask.
Science of Grounding
An interview with Clint Ober. Clint has spent a lot of time researching how the earth's electrical energy influences health. He also spent over 30 years in the cable TV industry, grounding equipment to the earth to maintain the electrical stability of the system.
Clint explains that when we are grounded, the body is conductive, but when we put shoes on, we lose that conductivity. He grew curious about whether the loss of contact with the earth was having an effect on human health. Clint started experimenting with a voltmeter that he rigged to ground himself while he slept. He discovered he not only slept better, but also noticed that within a few days of sleeping grounded, the chronic pain he lived with began to subside.
Next, Clint decided to design a grounding study involving 60 volunteers. He developed "grounding planes," which were small pads the volunteers slept on. By the end of the study, for the most part the participants reported sleeping better, feeling better, having more energy and experiencing general improvement in their overall health.
Clint's anecdotal study attracted the attention of a retired anesthesiologist in San Diego. He and Clint designed another study in which they measured the circadian cortisol levels of a group of volunteers every four hours for 24 hours before grounding. Then they grounded the group for six to eight weeks and took cortisol measurements again on the same schedule at the end of the study. What they found was very interesting.
Before grounding, the volunteers' cortisol levels were all over the place. But by the end of the study, all the 24-hour circadian profiles were synchronized. The volunteers didn't know each other and didn't live close to one another. This result gave Clint a good indication that grounding affects the stress hormone cortisol.
In a subsequent study, Clint worked with an expert in electrophysiology and biofeedback, and they measured the normal biofeedback parameters in a group of 60 individuals. From that study, Clint learned that as soon as the body is grounded, it automatically shifts from a sympathetic state to a parasympathetic state, which means it goes from a fight-or-flight condition to a calm, more relaxed physiologic state.
During grounding of a human or animal, the charge is removed from the body. For example, when an indoor-only kitty lives 24/7 above the surface of the earth, let's say, in a high-rise in downtown Chicago, she can't benefit from the negative surface charge of the earth that provides an abundance of electrons that move very quickly to reduce the charge on her body. Her body begins to deplete itself of electrons.
By grounding the body, we're able to gather free electrons from the earth that have the ability to combat free radicals. This is especially important for animals that are constantly bombarded by electromagnetic fields (EMFs) inside the home coming from sources such as wireless routers, appliances and electronics.
It's like pouring water on a fire. Fire is oxidation. When we connect the body to the earth and the result is a reduction in pain, it's because we're flooding the body with electrons. These free electrons can readily absorb and reduce free radicals and prevent them from oxidizing healthy cells.
This MD says that earthing, using a mat or going barefoot on the grass (I know it sounds crazy) thins the blood, lowers blood pressure, is anti-inflammatory and more.... he and other MD's have done studies, researched over 30 years.
Benefits of Earthing/Grounding
Grounding Reduces Inflammation and Improves Circulation
Many medical experts suspect all disease is caused by chronic inflammation over an extended period of time. We certainly know in the animal kingdom that's true. Most chronic diseases have their roots in a chronic low-grade inflammatory process. Disease manifests differently in different bodies, of course, based on a multitude of factors including genetics, environment and lifestyle. But the underlying common thread is chronic inflammation.
According to Clint, a contributing factor to chronic inflammation is a lack of grounding.
Earthing may be beneficial in:
Reducing inflammation
Reducing chronic pain
Increasing Energy
Lowering stress and promoting calmness by reducing stress hormones.
Normalizing biological rhythms including circadian rhythm
Normalizing blood pressure and blood flow
Relieving muscle tension and headache
Improving menstrual and female hormone symptoms
Speeds healing- used in some places to prevent bed sores
Reducing jet lag
Protecting the body from effects of EMFs
Shortening recovery time from injury or athletic activity
Reducing snoring
Helping support adrenal health

Here are some examples of ways you can ground yourself to the Earth indoors using a grounded 3-prong outlet almost regardless of where you live or work...
Conductive desktop pad – This is a simple conductive pad that can lie flat on your desktop where you work. It can be placed underneath your keyboard and mouse. Connected to the pad is a cord that is plugged into the ground port (bottom outlet) of the nearest 3-prong electrical outlet. Making bare skin connection with the conductive pad ensures you will receive free electrons from the Earth.
Conductive foot mat – Similar to and often identical to the desktop pad, is a mat to place under your desk to rest your bare feet on. Remember how the ball of your foot is one of the most potent conductivity points on your body? This setup takes advantage of that and the mat is connected to the ground port of an electrical outlet the same as the desktop pad.
Conductive bed pad – Since you spend pretty much 30% of your life sleeping, your bed affords an excellent opportunity to be grounded to the Earth while you sleep. There are many different variations of conductive devices that can be used at night. They connect to the ground port of the nearest electrical outlet just like the desktop pad and foot mat.

Diet Tip-Green Drink (from Mariel Hemingway)
2-3 kale or spinach leaves
1/2 avocado
1 raw date
2 tbsp. raw olive oil
2 tsp fresh turmeric or powder
1 tbsp. raw honey
2 tbsp super greens powder (improvise)
dash of cinnamon
Throw all of the ingredients in the blender and whiz until well combined. Pour into a drinking glass and enjoy.
Blood Thinning
The research has shown that earthing-grounding prevents blood clots. My question is Do I still take natto-kinase and/or other all natural blood thinners? They say do not do earthing while taking Coumadin (warfarin) or other blood thinners since your blood could get too thin. The way that they discuss it in the book was your blood, if it is like mine, becomes like ketchup which is not healthy and can cause strokes. I have had blood clots on my lungs 6-7 times and dissolved the clots with natto-kinase much to my doctors confoundment.
Cancer
From Canada
According to Dvorak, when a tumour begins to grow and develop genetic faults, the cancerous cells lure inflammatory immune cells into the tumour in an effort to survive. Once inside, these cells secrete molecules that jump-start the growth of blood vessels, supplying the tumour with much-needed nutrients and oxygen.
in 2011, a study by experts at the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Centre and the Richard J. Solove Research Institute supported the idea that inflammation plays an indirect, yet significant, genetic role in the development of cancer.
The research team found that inflammation promotes a rise in levels of the microRNA-155 molecule (miR-155). A higher concentration of MiR-155 causes a decrease in levels of certain proteins that are important for DNA repair. This leads to a higher rate of gene mutations, which is known to lead to cancer formation.
Modern medicine has also come around to the idea of taking anti-inflammatory measures to prevent and slow the progression of cancer.
The most effective way to stay grounded is to walk barefoot outside to allow for direct contact with the Earth. Alternatively, you can take advantage of one of our many available Earthing products, like Earthing sheets and Earthing mats. We recently started offering women’s groundals from GetGroundedFootwear, the best footwear for staying grounded.

Congestion of the Gut
Through thermal imaging, I have often seen significant changes among patients with common digestive tract disorders after just three nights of sleeping grounded that could otherwise take much, much longer using cleansing, postural, and other types of strategies. Earthing alone in a short time produces significant clearing up of congestion that I could see in the images, and this objective evidence accompanied positive feedback from patients.
Congestion in the digestive tract is often an undiagnosed and overlooked cause of such problems as constipation, abdominal discomfort and pain, chronic fatigue, swelling in the extremities, veins, and even in the testicles.
In the Earthing study, we saw thermal imaging evidence of improved ileocecal valve function within 20 minutes of Earthing. Astonishing. We saw no such changes in individuals who were not grounded during the experiment.
Earthing can't fix everything but it can fix a bunch of things, and often pretty fast.
I have observed that patients using the Earthing bands or patches for local pain (tendonitis, bursitis, arthritis, injury) report less pain. One example is a 65-year-old female patient with elbow tendonitis who used an Earthing wrist band daily for about an hour. She came back two weeks later saying that her pain had gone down by about 50%. Her treatment protocol comprised Earthing, natural anti-inflammatory supplements, and contrast hydrotherapy.
I have found that fibromyalgia responds well to daily Earthing. An example was a 45-year-old female patient who followed my recommendation for Earthing in bed. About a month later she reported that her body pain had improved significantly, and she was sleeping more soundly during the night. I had also put her on low-dose naltrexone, an anti-inflammatory diet (no sugar, gluten, or dairy), boswellia, trace minerals, and liposomal glutathione (due to mold exposure), so she was doing these therapies at the same time.
I have observed that patients who I have Earthed during acupuncture sessions have a deeper more relaxed treatment compared to needles alone. The sensations in and around the needles did not change, but their experience on the table was different.
Note: Earthing has broad physiological effects. As a result, medication dosages may need to be monitored. For instance, Earthing has a mild blood thinning effect, and may improve thyroid function and blood sugar regulation.

Edema
My clinic is adjacent to the beach so I tell patients that after their office visit they should walk barefoot along the wet sand for at least 10 minutes, and longer if they can.
Some of my patients have considerable edema and water retention of the feet and legs, a result of cancer or failing kidneys. Their legs are ballooned. I often direct two clinic staffers to accompany such patients to the beach. They carry a shovel and dig a hole in the wet sand, then assist the patient to sit on the sand with legs lowered into the hole. The hole is then filled with sand. After about 20 minutes, the edema is typically gone. The patient walks back very happy and feeling much better, thanks to the “sand treatment.”

Pets
Grounding-Earthing for healthy pets
By Dr. Karen Shaw Becker
If you're a pet parent, you know our furry family members suffer from many of the same degenerative conditions that affect humans. Interestingly, dogs and cats in the wild don't tend to suffer from those conditions, and one of the reasons, in my opinion, is that wild animals are naturally grounded because they live outside.
They're in constant contact with the ground, unlike the animals that live with us in our homes, who often don't have the benefit of regularly making direct contact with the earth.
City dwelling pets are particularly lacking in their ability to get grounded. It's difficult to find a park where you can take your shoes off safely and walk with your dog to get the benefits of earthing, which means putting your feet and your pet's paws in direct contact with the earth.
Clint believes pets seek to be grounded during storms because there's a buildup of negative charge equal to the positive charge in the clouds. There's a phenomenon with lightning called flashover, which means the strike takes the path of least resistance to ground.
If you're well-grounded during a lightning strike, it may hit you but will flash over. Clint believes animals know this instinctively.

The body repairs itself when you sleep. The body repairs itself even better when you sleep grounded. You sleep deeper. You have more energy and less pain.
Doctors who recommend Earthing to patients often say: “The first feedback I usually hear from someone who just started Earthing is, ‘best sleep I’ve had in years.'”
